15 Million Apply for USA Green Card lottery

According to the State Department USA Green Card lottery gained a massive response as 15 million applicants lined up for this lottery. The ‘diversity visa program’ of America selected 50,000 applicants randomly in a lottery and gave them opportunity of permanent residence in the US.
The USA visa program this year drew 25% excess entries for lottery compared to last year. This year’s enrolment period lasted for a month and it closed on 3rd November. Bangladesh alone accounted for 7.67 million applications. This makes up for almost 5% of the population of Bangladesh, which includes children and elder people. While Nigeria followed with 1.47 million, Ukraine had 0.76 million applicants, Ethiopia 0.58 million and Egypt featured 0.34 million entries. In fact, within the one-month period when the systems were available for receiving the applications, almost 62, 000 people applied on an hourly basis. This program was launched in the year 1990. The sole intention of this program was to promote diversity within the immigrants. This lottery system is now almost open to any country except for the countries like Mexico, China, Philippines and India as the nationals from these countries are already present in large numbers. Technically, you do not need to be highly skilled to apply for this lottery. Only a simple high-school diploma would do. The US visa program critics complained that this brings in immigrants, who are mostly uneducated. More people are astounded after knowing about this program observed the Republican Bob Goodlatte. He is legislating to put an end to this scheme. However, the supporters feel that this lottery system accounts for a small percentage of the assumed 1 million immigrants coming to US every year. Moreover, it gives the less fortunate people an opportunity of a lifetime to make a fresh beginning in the US.
