Critical Skills List (CSL) is a complete list of occupations that are in high demand in Australia. This list is mainly established by Australian Immigration Department. Candidates, who are not nominated by territory government or by state government, are only eligible to apply under this visa program.
Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and state and territory governments usually play constructive roles while developing Critical Skills List (CSL). The main objective of developing CSL is to give encouragement to business activities in Australia by allowing skilled people to migrate to Australia. However, this list is regularly updated, reviewed and monitored by designated authority, so that skills demand can be met efficaciously. This system was first introduced in 2008.

Australian Computer Society (ACS) assesses skills of the individuals. A candidate will be given priority in this visa program only when he/she will able to satisfy the minimum eligibility criteria. However, these requirements can vary depending on the nature of the applied position.
