As the name suggest, an individual can migrate to Australia permanently if the candidate is married to an Australian citizen, or is the fiancée or is into a committed relationship with anyone who has a valid Australian passport. In all such cases what is most important and vital is that someone who would guarantee all you financial requirements for the initial period of two years of stay in the country should sponsor the applicant.

Married Spouses
If an applicant is legally married to someone who is an Australian citizen, one will surely get a permanent residency in Australia.

Spouse Visa
The spouse is given a two years period to stay in the country, and then they have to prove that the relationship is still genuine. The partners have to prove mutual commitment and that they shared everything that a couple is supposed to share. In cases where, the partners are in a relationship for more than five years or if the couple is, actually married for more than two years and have children, the immigration authority would waive of the two years waiting period.

De Facto or Common Law Spouses
De Facto or common law marriage is said to be those marriages, which are not recognized by any government but are accepted legally by the same. There is no need for such marriages to be solemnized. The partners must live and show to the world that they are couples.

Spouse Visa as a De Facto Spouse
Australian government allows an applicant who is married to an Australian citizen under common law or de facto to migrate to Australia. In such cases, the applicant must undergo a medical test and both the partners must show that their relationship is genuine and that they are together. The spouse who is granted a visa, can work anywhere in the country. Again the two years waiting period for a permanent residency can be waived if again, both the partners have a child and they have been in a relationship for more than five years.

Fiancée Visa
Australian citizens can get their fiancées a temporary residency if they can prove that they are into a relationship and that they would get married in the near future within a fixed period.

Prospective Marriage Visa
Unmarried couples who would be getting married within nine months can apply for a prospective marriage visa. Such a visa is valid for nine months. Within this period, the couple has to get married. The basic criteria that the applicant or the prospective partner needs to fulfil are that the applicant should be of the age to get legally married. They must share a genuine relationship.
