The investor retirement visa category is designed for retired people who have significant assets and want to spend their retirement years in Australia.
Duration
Migrating to Australia via the investor retirement visa provides the successful applicant with a temporary visa, valid for four years. This visa does not lead to permanent residency in Australia, however, a holder may apply to remain for another four-year period after the expiry of the current visa.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicants must meet all the requirements listed under the eligibility criteria list.
A) Age - The applicant must be at least 55 years of age or above. However, there is no age restriction on the spouse.
B) No dependants - The applicant must have no dependants other than a spouse.
C) Be able to support himself in Australia - The applicant must be able to support him or herself in Australia.
Health and Character
Australia has strict health and character requirements that must be met before an Australian visa will be granted. People attempting to migrate to Australia on the Australian Investor Retirement Visa will be required to: undergo a medical examination and chest x-ray undertaken by one of a panel of doctors selected by the Australian authorities, and obtain police certificates for all countries in which they have lived for more than 12 months in the 10 years leading up to the application.
Processing Time
The applicant has to wait four to six months to be cleared and certified.
