Australia allows any individual to migrate to Australia, provided the applicant has a particular type of skill that is listed in the General Skilled Migration list once the applicant successfully gets the required points in the processing stage. Currently the applicant must score a minimum of 120 points to qualify.
Duration
The Australian government grants a skilled migrant a period of five years stay in the country. The migrant can apply for a citizenship after living in Australia for four years consecutively.
Eligibility Criteria
The applicant must pass and must qualify under the below mentioned criteria in order to get the immigration certificate.
A) Age - The applicant must be below the age of 45 years.
B) English language - The applicant must have sufficient English language skills. The applicant has to pass a test conducted by the immigration department.
C) Skills and Qualification - The main applicant must meet the qualifications and work experience requirements of the appropriate skills assessing body for their profession and must have been assessed as suitable by the relevant body for the nominated occupation. The applicant must also nominate a skilled occupation that appears on the current version of the Skilled Occupations List.
D) Recent Work Experience - Applicants must have been in recent paid employment in any occupation on the Skilled Occupation List. Employment is considered to be at least 20 hours per week. You must have been employed for a total of 12 months out of the previous 24 months prior to submitting your application.
E) Australian Qualification Exemption - If the applicant has an Australian degree, which is not more than six months old, then the applicant does not need to meet the work experience requirements as mentioned above.
F) Skill Assessment - The relevant body under the immigration department would conduct a test to assess the skills of the applicant.
G) Health Assessment - The health and medical condition of the applicant would be checked by a panel of doctor as designated by the immigration department and the applicant must qualify under the health assessment test.
H) Character Assessment
The applicant must get a police clearance from the country in which they lived for the past ten years prior to submitting the application.
Skilled Points Test
The applicant must pass the skill point test and should qualify with a minimum of 120 points as stipulated by the immigration department.
