Brazil

To migrate to Brazil foreign nationals of certain countries do not require a visa. Foreign residents can visit Brazil for both tourism and business purposes. Nationals of most of the European Union states are allowed to migrate to Brazil except for residents of the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Latvia, Malta, Estonia, Cyprus, and Lithuania.

To migrate to Brazil, a Laissez-Passer is required for foreign nationals who hold passport issued by the Central African Republic, Chinese Taipei and Bhutan governments as Brazil immigration services do not recognize the passports issued by the above-mentioned countries.

Types of Visa
To visit or reside in Brazil for a temporary period, foreign nationals of certain countries are required to apply for the appropriate kind of visa depending on the purpose of their visit to Brazil. Two main types of Brazil visas are:

Brazilian Tourist Visa
Foreign nationals willing to visit Brazil as tourists can apply for the Brazilian tourist visa. With this visa, one can reside in this country for 90 days. Once a tourist visa to Brazil has been issued, the visa holder can use it for multiple entries during its entire validity period. With permission from the Immigration Authority of Brazil, the validity of a tourist visa in Brazil can be extended but not more than 180 days. With a Brazil tourist visa, a foreign national is allowed to stay here on a holiday but not allowed to take up employment.

Brazilian Business Visa
Business visa in Brazil is meant for temporary residence in this country. It is issued for a period of 90 days. A Brazilian business holder is not allowed to take up employment during his/her business visit in this country. However, with a business visa, a foreign national can undertake business activities and is allowed to attend business related discussions and meetings.

Eligibility
In Brazil, visa applications whether for tourism or business must be accompanied by a passport from the applicant's country of origin and proof of residence in circumstances where the applicant is living outside his or her country of origin. Passports must have a minimum of six months validity remaining. In addition, candidates will need to provide evidence of sufficient funding to cover the duration of their stay and return or onward travel tickets.

Where applicants are under 18 years of age and are not accompanied by both parents, a birth certificate must be provided. A declaration authorising the trip must also be proved from the absent parent
Where applicants are applying for business visas it will be necessary to provide a letter from the applicant's company which states the duration and purpose of the visit.
Processing Times and Fees
Visa and immigration law are subject to change at short notice and as such, processing times and fees for Brazilian visas may vary. The type of visa being applied for and the nationality of the applicant may also influence the fees and processing times.

Spouse Immigration and Dependent Immigration
Short-term visas for Brazil are issued on a temporary basis and although a tourist visas may be extended by a set period in some circumstances, visas are not extendable beyond this. Short stay visas do not count toward long-term settlement in Brazil and visa holders will be obliged to return to their country of residence when the visa expires. No provision is made for the spouse, common law partner, civil partner and/or dependent children of the applicant to accompany them to Brazil and all individuals wishing to travel to Brazil will need to apply for a visa individually.
