The country of Canada allows a Canadian resident to sponsor his/her spouse, common law or conjugal partner for a permanent residency under the system of sponsorship. Canada only recognises legal marriages and only qualifying candidates will be granted a spouse visa.
Benefits
Living in Canada under a spouse visa permit allows candidates to take up any job of their choice. There are no restrictions for the applicants. This is a permanent residency visa where the spouse has a choice for indefinite leave in Canada if they choose to. After three years, the applicant can apply for a citizenship.
Eligibility
The eligibility criteria include the proof of marriage and the relationship must be legal. The applicant should be the spouse or common law partner or a conjugal partner to the Canadian National.

If the marriage took place in any other country, then it should be a registered marriage with the local registry offices of that country.
