The Yukon Nominee Program was created to allow the Government of Yukon to nominate successful immigrants on the basis of Economic and Industrial priority and labor market conditions for those who are actually willing to establish themselves in Yukon. Successful applicants are granted permanent residency and a letter of recommendation is issued that can be used by the nominee to work on a temporary basis. Once the candidates become permanent residents of Canada for three years, they can apply for Canadian citizenship. Citizenship will allow them to live and work anywhere in Canada.
The Two Different Categories
The Yukon provincial nomination program offers two different routes for the applicants to apply; either business or skilled workers route. Few options allow the applicants to directly apply on their own instead of an employer. This program does not utilize a point based skills assessment while evaluating the applicants.
The business route can be divided into two different categories: the entrepreneur and the self employed. In order to qualify as an entrepreneur, the applicant has to invest minimum CDN $250,000 and should be willing to spend at least CDN $150,000 to purchase or establish a business in the province. The applicant has to visit the province before and should be able to demonstrate his or her experience and business skills in the field. In order to qualify for the self employed professional, the candidates should be in a profession that is a skill shortage area and should satisfy all the requirements. The candidates should have visited the province previously and should have sufficient funds to support themselves and his dependents for a minimum period of six months.
The skilled worker route can be divided into two categories, the skilled worker and the critical impact employee. For the skilled worker, the candidate has to be in a trade that is considered as a skills shortage area and be licensed if necessary. They should also be able to speak in French or English. In order to qualify as a critical impact employee, the candidate has to have an employer who can sponsor him or her on their behalf. This category targets the employers and they must prove that the applicant would make a positive contribution to the province. The candidate as an employer should demonstrate that they have some specific skills that the local candidates do not possess the same.
Dependents
The Yukon Nominee Scheme allows a permanent settled status to the successful candidates in Canada and they are also allowed to bring their spouse or partner or the dependent children less than 22 years of age to Canada. Unmarried children above 22 years can accompany them if they are unable to work and support themselves due to some physical or mental handicaps.
