The Tier 5 of the points based
system was introduced to allow skilled workers aged 18-30 to come to the UK on
a temporary basis. Under this visa tier, two groups of people can immigrate to
the UK. The first category is for candidates coming to the UK to participate in
the Youth Mobility Scheme, and the second are those who wish to engage in a
specific job on a temporary basis. Tier 5 is divided into the following 5 categories:
- Creative
and sporting worker
- Charity
worker
- Religious
worker
- Government
authorised exchange
- International
agreements
It is a requirement for all
categories of workers to pass the assessment test to become eligible for this
visa.
Obtaining entry clearance is a
requisite condition for the Tier 5 visa. This will certify that the candidate
has gained the minimum points needed to qualify for this visa category. Points
are awarded if the candidate can produce the following documentation:
- A
valid Certificate of Sponsorship, which must be issued by a licensed
sponsor.
- Evidences
to prove they have sufficient funds to financially support themselves whilst
in the UK.
Individuals applying for the
Youth Mobility Scheme must fulfil the following criteria:
- Must
be a national of a country which is participating in the scheme or a
British Overseas Citizen, a British National (Overseas) citizen or a
British Overseas Territories Citizen.
- Must
be sponsored by the national government of their respective country.
- Must
be aged 18-30 years.
- Must
pass a fund test to ascertain they can financially support themselves
whilst in the UK without recourse to public funds.
- Not
have any dependent children.
- Not
previously entered the UK under the Youth Mobility Scheme or Working
Holiday Maker visa.
Restrictions
of the Tier 5 visa
- Maximum
stay in the UK under this category is 24 months.
- Switching
to another UK visa category is not permitted.
- Candidates
are not permitted to bring their spouse, unmarried partner or any other
dependants with them to the UK.
