J1 Summer Internship/Au Pair Visas

 
J1 Summer Work and Travel
The J1 summer work and travel program is a part of a cultural exchange program offered by the U.S government for international full time post secondary students who are pursuing graduate education. The international post secondary students are provided with the opportunity to experience the life and work culture of the U.S. The students are allowed to travel and temporary work for a period of four months during the summer break. Students are allowed to have work experience in the U.S during their summer work and travel program. In addition they also earn money on their summer trip to the U.S to cover the expenses of the trip. Students receive several benefits of this program such as gaining international work experience, making new friends and improving their English proficiency.
 
J1 Internship
The J1 Internship visa category is also a part of the exchange visitor program offered by the U.S government for the young professionals and international students from around the world to obtain valuable practical training in the U.S for the period of up to eighteen months. The J1 internship program is designed in the manner so that an individual receives supervised or monitored work or service experience and has international learning goals. The individuals can receive internship with goals in academic learning, career development, skill development, personal development, and work experience placement. In this internship program the participants are offered with the opportunity of living abroad and enjoying the work and social cultures of America.
 
Au Pair Visas
The Au pair visa was planned and designed for the individuals between the age group of 18 to 26 years who live as an extended member of a host family to provide live-in child care and in return receive boarding and lodging facility from the host family. This J1 exchange visitor visa is sponsored from an experienced organization that allows Au pair to work in the U.S. The main objective of the individuals coming to the U.S on J1 Au pair visa is to take care of the host children but still they have enough time to judiciously utilize their time in the U.S by getting engaged in different activities like taking educational classes at local schools, actively participating in monthly meetings and combined activities together with other Au pair visa holders. Some of the common responsibilities shared by the Au pair visa holders include:
 
    • Dropping children to school
    • Picking children from school or after-school activities
    • Assisting them while doing homework
    • Helping the children to keep the rooms clean
    • Cooking light meals for the children
 
Work/Travel Program Requirements
There are certain eligibility requirements that have to be fulfilled by the foreign nationals who wish to obtain J1 exchange visitor program visa. The following requirements have to be fulfilled by the students opting for U.S student work and travel program during their summer break:
 
• Students must be currently enrolled as a full-time student in a university or college.
• Applicants should not be U.S citizens and should be living outside the United States
• Students must be in between the age group of 18-29 years.
• Students must be fluent in the English language
• Students should be committed to work and travel program and should abide by the program rules.
 
Internship Requirements
Individuals applying for J1 exchange visitor program for obtaining internship in the U.S need to fulfill the following eligibility requirements:
    • Applicants of J1 exchange visitor visa in order to obtain internship in U.S should provide minimum 12 months of commitment.
    • Written and spoken English fluency is a must for the applicants.
    • Applicants should be capable of delivering good work and should have willingness to work hard with personal ethics.
    • J-1 exchange program is just intended for the international students.
    • Applicants must have work experience related to their work or they should belong to the educational background from their field of interest.
 
Au Pair Requirements
People applying for Au pair visa have to fulfill the following eligibility requirements in order to successfully obtain the Au pair visa:
 
• Applicants must be in good health and should be in between 18 to 26 years old.
• Applicants must have genuine love for children and should have prior child care experience.
• Applicants must be able to speak and understand English and should be a secondary school graduate.
• Applicants should be a non-smoker or should be ready to give up smoking if asked by the host family.
• Applicants must possess a good character and should have a police clearance report.
• Applicants must not have previously lived and worked in the U.S. as an au pair.
